Luxembourg promotes secure exchange of patient data
Agency eSanté uses regify technology
Huefingen, 24. September 2019 – Luxembourg is driving forward its investments in e-Health Services. 30,000 health experts from hospitals, laboratories and private practices in Luxembourg are using eSanté's digital health platform to securely exchange and share electronic health information. This includes the digital patient file, which has been in the test phase since 2015. It is to be introduced for all 850,000 insured persons in Luxembourg by the end of this year.
Recent security gap just one of many examples
"In many countries, medical patient data is not yet handled securely on all levels. The serious security gap that has given unauthorized access to patients’ X-ray and MRI images on the Web is just one of many examples that has recently become public," says Kurt Kammerer, Managing Director of regify GmbH, which provides the technology for the secure, encrypted exchange of patient data for the eSanté agency. He continues: "Even standard security technologies have not been implemented by doctor’s offices and hospitals in the affected countries – including providers from Germany. The Luxembourg healthcare system is setting different standards in this regard."
regibox provides data security in data-sensitive healthcare sector
eSanté provides Luxembourg hospitals, laboratories and practices with a cloud solution for the secure exchange of patient data. Sensitive data is stored online in a secure data box, the regibox, and is only accessible to those involved. If data is added, changed or deleted, the project participants have always access to the current data thanks to automatic synchronization. "Laboratories can, for example, make the latest blood values directly available to the attending physicians in hospitals without creating a security risk. This helps patients, accelerates processes and safeguards medical facilities," explains Kammerer.
regify has been a global technology supplier for secure cloud services for trustworthy communication, collaboration and transactions since 2009.
Luxembourg also active EU-wide
Luxembourg, together with Finland, Estonia and the Czech Republic, is also a pioneer in the cross-border exchange of patient data within the EU. Since June 2019, the country has been participating in the EU programme CEF eHDSI (Connecting Europe Facility - eHealth Digital Services Infrastructure) via eSanté. This means, for example, that drug prescriptions are also valid in pharmacies in other countries.
